First Time Camper? This Accessible Mountain Campsite in New York Will Make You a Camping Convert
For those looking for a great beginner campground, Terrace Farm Phoenecia is an amazing mountain campground in New York with stunning views.
When I travel, I'm usually most likely to pick a hotel or vacation rental as my nighttime destination; I've always loved my creature comforts, but I have plenty of friends who insist that camping is the way to go. While I may not be ready to embrace "roughing it" just yet, there are some campsites that are so stunning, they can make me into an outdoorsman. A perfect example is Terrace Farms in Phoenecia. This mountain campground in New York is located on a privately owned multi-generational family farm on Tremper Mountain, overlooking some of the most beautiful sites in the Empire State. This campsite isn't just one campsite; it's three, with a total capacity of 26 sites. No matter which site you choose, you'll find a nicely furnished campsite surrounded by stunning trails, fishing sites, and some of the best recreation in the Catskills.
The Catskills are one of my favorite sites in all of New York. There are plenty of spectacular resorts dotted around the mountains, of course, but you just can't beat those views from staying at a campsite in the thick of the mountains.
Terrace Farm takes the guesswork out of camping. It offers a trio of campsites equipped with on-site outhouses and firepits. The three sites, which host six to twelve guests, are located on Tremper Mountain, only a short distance from the charming New York hamlet of Phoenecia.
The best reason to visit here? The great outdoors! This is one of the most beautiful spots for camping in the state, with fantastic spots for fly fishing on the Esopus Creek. The area is located in a historic rock quarry, offering unique rock formations to photograph, and several public hiking trails can be easily accessed from your campsite.
While there are plenty of restaurants in the nearby towns, there's something that just tastes perfect about some campfire food grilled over an open fire pit. Bring a cooler with hot dogs and some supplies for s'mores and take yourself right back to summer camp!
Really, the best thing about a stay on Terrace Farm is that there is no limit to the adventures. If you want a more secluded getaway, book the Beechwood site. Maplewood and The Hemlocks are a little larger and a great place to meet other campers. No matter where you stay, you're guaranteed to discover something amazing as you explore the Catskills from your new home base.
Have you stayed at Terrace Farms before? Do you know someone who will love this little slice of paradise in the Catskills? Tell them about this article, and book your stay at this mountain campground in New York on the official HipCamp listing. If you're in town and want a break from cooking around the campfire, you're only a short drive from the town of Phoenecia, where you'll find the Phoenecia Diner, an iconic, reasonably priced diner serving up incredible breakfasts!
