Spend The Night In An Authentic 1970s Railroad Caboose In Montana’s Bitterroot Mountains

The Kelly Caboose in Noxon offers a unique, family-friendly glamping experience in a renovated 1974 train caboose.

Looking for a more unique experience than a standard hotel stay? Montana has plenty of those -- you can even sleep in a covered wagon on a farm. But when it comes to creative accommodations, we're pretty smitten with this authentic converted caboose we found in Noxon. Not only is it surrounded by natural beauty, it has everything you need for a great time.

The Kelly Caboose is a renovated 1974 Burlington Northern Caboose that has been updated with everything you need for a good stay.

The caboose sits on a little piece of property in Noxon, bordering Highway 200.

Although the caboose itself is cozy (and the property is shared with two other Airbnb units which are far enough away not to notice), the area is spacious, with plenty of room to enjoy the great outdoors.

It's also totally family-friendly, and kids tend to love staying here.

Inside, you'll find a full bedroom with a queen bed as well as two twin bunk beds in the hall.

Think of this as glorified camping in a unique space.

While the space has been renovated, it's still very much a train caboose inside.

You'll see plenty of the old details.

There's also a living area with a loveseat, a fireplace, and a little kitchenette with a sink.

There is no full bathroom (as a caboose wouldn't have one), but there is a toilet with a privacy curtain. There is a flatscreen TV mounted on the wall, but there is no WiFi here.

While the caboose itself is humble, you'll love the outside area known as the Slack Shack.

The Slack Shack includes a grill, kitchen, an outdoor shower, and an entertainment space complete with lounge chairs.

This area also includes a horseshoe pit and plenty of games for children.

While this area is best enjoyed in warmer weather, you can rent The Kelly Caboose for $100 per night anytime.
