Montana’s Century-Old Miner’s Hotel Is Loaded With Local History

The Miner's Hotel in Butte, Montana, offers a unique blend of historic charm and modern amenities, making it a perfect destination for history enthusiasts.

To those who appreciate Montana's unique mining past, Butte is a historic gem. And with the abundance of museums and attractions, it's easy to learn more about its history when you visit. History buffs can also appreciate the beautiful Miner's Boutique Hotel, a century-old property that has been converted into a contemporary, charming place to stay.

The Miner's Hotel is located in the historic district of Uptown Butte, within walking distance of some of the city's top restaurants, breweries, and other local businesses.

The building is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.

The current building was built in 1913 as the Miner's Savings and Trust Co., and the bank occupied the first floor until the 1960s.

Upstairs, furnished rooms were rented out to short and long-term tenants by Lawrence and Katherine Graves, the proprietors.

The property has been remodeled and renovated into a sleek, modern hotel with plenty of historic touches.

One of those historic touches is the lack of an elevator. Prepare to take the stairs to your room.

There are a dozen rooms and suites here, and no two look alike.

They're also all distinctly named with titles like The Kelley Suite and The Vault Room.

The rooms -- and the hotel in general -- are meant to serve as a celebration of Butte history.

The old photographs and memorabilia showcase the city's mining past, and some of the original details were left intact.

At one time, government Prohibition agent Carrol Olson and declared bootlegger Henry Allexis were both renting rooms here.

Perhaps that knowledge was the inspiration for the hotel's onsite speakeasy, 51 Below, which is open Wednesday through Saturday.

In addition to being extremely charming, the rooms and suites at the Minter's Boutique Hotel are quite affordable.

The next time you need a change of scenery, give Butte -- and this hotel -- a try.

Doesn't this place look delightful? Book a stay at the Miner's Hotel here.
