This Whimsical Missouri Airbnb Is Like Stepping Onto the Set of Alice in Wonderland

You'd never know there's a wonderfully wacky vacation rental hiding inside this suburban home.

When Alice questions the nonsensical world around her in Wonderland, the Cheshire Cat says, “We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad. You must be—or you wouldn’t have come here.”

If you are more adventurous than Alice and want to be transported to Wonderland, the Missouri Alice in Wonderland Airbnb in Ozark is just the place for you. This house combines the magic of Lewis Carroll’s classic novel and Disney’s beloved 1951 cartoon version with the wacky spice of director Tim Burton’s 2010 film, creating an incomparable vacation rental. It even has a two-story slide!

An Alice in Wonderland Airbnb in Missouri

From the outside, this Alice in Wonderland Airbnb perfectly fits into its surroundings in Ozark, a small town located between Springfield and Branson. You would never know there are striped walls, crazy colors, and a two-story slide hiding behind the unassuming beige siding. Step inside and discover a one-of-a-kind three-bedroom home, where each element is thoughtfully designed to reflect the book and film versions of Wonderland.

Inside a Fairy Tale Airbnb

The magic starts in the front staircase, where you are greeted by walls covered in green plastic foliage dotted with effervescent red roses. Painted arrows are displayed all over the walls, with some welcoming you to Wonderland and others warning you to “Go back!” If you’re like me and opt to disregard the deterrents, you’ll find yourself in a bright living room with massive black-and-white stripes covering the walls.

In Alice in Wonderland, the Red Queen famously says, “Off with their heads.” Luckily, instead of worrying about someone “offing” your head, you’ll simply have to decide where you wish to lay it each night. Adults may want to pick the Red Queen’s black, white, and red suite accented with a grand bed worthy of royalty. Of course, kids will be drawn to the Cheshire Cat bedroom with hot pink checkerboard walls. It features a pair of bunks and a 3D tree that seems to grow in the corner. A final bedroom transports you to a flower garden.

While Alice in Wonderland is the home’s decor focus, I couldn’t help but think the blue LED lighting in the dining room evokes the “Day-O” scene from Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice. I would wholly expect the Deitz family and some monstrous creatures to emerge from the fluorescent chairs for a dance-off around the black-and-white checkered table. While the dancing is optional, this is a dining spot like no other. After your meal, head into the attached theater room to watch your favorite version of Alice in Wonderland on a giant film screen.

Falling Down the Rabbit Hole: Indoor Slides and More!

It wouldn’t truly be Wonderland if you didn’t tumble down a rabbit hole. Unlike Alice, you are in for a smoother ride in this two-story slide. It ends in a magical playroom featuring an indoor playhouse designed to resemble the White Rabbit’s cottage, with pink trim topped by a straw roof. The ceiling above is painted sky blue and has 3D floating clouds. Seriously, what could be more fun? I can’t imagine how my kids would have reacted to a vacation rental like this.

The Airbnb owners have included larger, “curiouser and curiouser” elements to this Alice in Wonderland home, but they haven’t overlooked the small touches. You can find a doorknob resembling the one from the book and films; luckily, this one doesn’t tell you things are “simply impassible.” You’ll also find tons of toys, statues, plush pillows, and more showcasing colorful characters from Wonderland. The collection will impress even the deepest Alice fans!

A Family Friendly Getaway in Ozark, Missouri

This home isn’t just fun to behold; it also caters to family fun. The playful spirit extends from the decor to all of the activities you can enjoy in the rental, including a game table with pool and ping pong, a massive selection of board games, a chess set with Alice in Wonderland characters, and a giant Connect Four. Outside, you’ll find a playhouse and swing set, but I’m not sure you’ll be able to get the kids out of the house!

While in Ozark, if you want a wonderfully wacky meal to complement your wonderfully wacky accommodations, head over to Lambert's Cafe, known as the quirkiest restaurant in Missouri. You'll feel like you've entered a new dimension of Wonderland when the servers begin slinging gigantic soft rolls across the restaurant—literally! Catch one, if you can!

If you're like Alice and find yourself thinking, "If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense," you must check out the Alice in Wonderland Airbnb listing to find more than 160 photos and to see if this wonderfully nonsensical home is available for your next visit to Missouri. I promise, you will truly feel transported to a Wonderland, just as Alice was.
