3 Trending Rentals in Illinois That People Book on Repeat (And We See Why)
Whether you're soaking in a hot tub or taking a bucket shower next to raccoons, these trending vacation rentals in Illinois are something to write home about.
I’ve worked in the short-term rental industry for more than five years, and I’m a sucker for a good Airbnb stay. While I love a hotel, there’s something special about “living like a local” in an Airbnb that you can’t ever beat. Whether I’m traveling in Europe or around the U.S., I always scope out the coolest homes. On your next trip to the Prairie State, check out one of these trending vacation rentals in Illinois.
1. Crooked Lake Getaway - Danville
Let’s talk lakefront. The Crooked Lake Getaway in Danville, Illinois, offers its guests total and complete privacy for swimming, kayaking, and relaxing on its own private lakefront on Crooked Lake. Guests have access to the Lillypad, which is a floating water mat that’s perfect for lounging on the water.
The home is tucked between Kennekuk County Park and Kickapoo State Recreation Area, offering a rugged getaway, as it sits at the bottom of a ravine. My favorite part of the home is the outdoor hot tub that overlooks the lakefront. With two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a full kitchen, and a laundry area, guests can easily spend a week here disconnecting from the busy world around them.
2. The Dome at Blueberry Hill - Cobden
The Dome at Blueberry Hill is the ideal place to sip on that new bottle of wine you just picked up at a stop on your tour of the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail. Located in Cobden, Illinois, this glamping dome offers the best of both worlds: a luxurious experience with an outdoorsy feel.
The dome itself comes with two bedrooms, a bathroom, a workspace, a laundry area, and a deck, perfectly completed with a hot tub. Just a couple of steps away is a barn called the Game Room, where guests can find an old arcade console, board games, frisbees, and more. This luxury glamping experience is great for couples, friends, and families to get together and enjoy nature without sacrificing the comforts of home.
3. Dana's Retreat - Princeton
When it comes to getaways, there’s nothing I love more than a tiny home. Dana’s Retreat in Princeton, Illinois, is just that. With three beds and enough space to comfortably sleep six, this 12-foot-by-12-foot off-the-grid home is located on the property of 2nd Hand Ranch and Rescue. The organization works to rehabilitate injured and orphaned animals. You’ll see a variety of critters, from raccoons to goats, as you explore the 10-acre property.
A stay at this property is a bit more rugged than staying at others on this list. First off, there’s no running water. Instead, you're provided a ration of gallon water jugs based on the season. You will have access to an extremely well-kept and comfortable “outhouse” as well as an enclosed bucket shower. Additionally, you’ll be able to use a propane grill to cook your meals and will be provided a bundle of firewood for cozy campfires. While this Airbnb stay is a bit unconventional, guests consistently rave about how much fun they have.
Whether you’re looking for a luxury weekend away or a rustic adventure, these trending vacation rentals in Illinois offer something for everyone. Feeling inspired? Try planning your own Illinois trip using Only In Your State’s itinerary planner.
