12 Undeniable Things Every True Montanan Has Done At Least Once

Common experiences shared by residents of Montana highlight the unique lifestyle in the Treasure State.

Montana is quite large, and the experiences of those who live here vary. That being said, there are a few certain things that nearly everyone who calls the Treasure State home has done. If you live here, you have most likely…

1. Shoveled snow.

If you haven’t done this by the age of 14, you most likely grew up somewhere else.

2. Been to a rodeo.

From the Miles City Bucking Horse Sale to the Livingston Roundup, we take our rodeos seriously here.

3. Enjoyed a treat from the Polebridge Mercantile.

The pastries here are almost as good as Glacier National Park itself. Almost.

4. Helped a stranger.

We look out for each other around here.

5. Driven a little faster than you should have.

The wide, open spaces are just too tempting.

6. Left your doors unlocked (on purpose).

Crime exists in Montana just like everywhere else, but in some Montana neighborhoods, this is the norm.

7. Discovered the magical goodness of huckleberries.

They are anything but overrated.

8. Made a joke about Californians.

You just can’t help it.

9. Had a harrowing outdoors experience.

Did your truck get stuck in the snow? Did you get a little lost during a hike? Stumble across an animal who wasn’t happy to see you? You get the drift.

10. Used the word “spendy.”

It’s one of our favorite words.

11. Drank a ditch.

We don’t mess around with our drinks in Montana. We cut our whiskey with a little water.

12. Felt a little smug when thinking about life in one of those other states.

We live in a beautiful world, but nothing can compare to Montana.

Those that don’t have the pleasure of calling Montana home will probably have some odd questions for those that do. How many of these questions have you been asked?
