People drive hundreds of miles with empty containers in hand, just to drink from this one spring in the Palmetto State.
The history of this special spring in Blackville is almost as compelling as the healthful water it spouts.
During the Revolutionary War some British Soldiers were sent from Charleston inland where they were expected to die. The Indians living in the area intercepted the lot and gave them water from this healing spring. Instead of dying, the soldiers made a complete recovery.
We have no need for pretension. Our fountain of youth is an unassuming, nearly hidden, pipe that juts out of the Earth and has a never-ending flow of healing H2O.
Bring all the containers you want. You can always spot those who have driven a long distance. They're the ones that pull up and have a trunk full of empty jugs and containers.
Claim to ownership of the springs began with the Native Americans, who sold the property and the spring in a swap for corn.
Eventually, the springs fell into the hands of L.P. Boylston. When he passed away he wanted to be certain the springs and their water were always free to the public. In a bold move, Boylston deeded the property and the springs to "God Almighty."
And that's how this fountain of youth became known as "God's Acre Healing Springs."
God's Acre Healing Springs is located on SC-3 about three miles north of Blackville, South Carolina. The spring is available 24 hours a day.
