Ordinarily, you’d think the bluest water in the Palmetto State would be the Atlantic Ocean. But the bluest water in all of South Carolina is not found in the Atlantic. It’s in the Upstate. There are a couple of incredibly pristine man-made lakes in South Carolina’s Upstate that are absolutely stunning. We told you about one of them in this article about the most pristine swimming spot in the state. Likewise, here’s the spot with the bluest water in South Carolina.
Lake Keowee, in the Upstate of South Carolina is one of the biggest kept hidden secrets of all time in the Palmetto State.
Well, not "all time," since it's a man-made lake and has only been around since the 70s.

Three hundred miles of absolutely stunning shoreline, paired with 26 miles of a lake that's 3 miles wide; Lake Keowee takes the cake for blue water fun in South Carolina.
The red shorelines only add to the beauty of this H2O sensation and seem to further demonstrate just how clear the water is.
Most of Lake Keowee can be found in Oconee County, although parts of the lake extend into Pickens County. Lakefront homes here are known to be gorgeous - and expensive.

Several parks are located along Lake Keowee's shores, including Keowee-Toxaway State Park accessed via Sunset, SC, and South Cove Park in Seneca.

While Lake Keowee is a hidden secret from much of the Palmetto State, locals already know and love this great recreational resource. Several marinas and restaurants are hot spots of activity in the summer and fall months.
Other "fun" adventures await those more daring at Lake Keowee. Although we're certainly NOT recommending this activity.
