These 3 Things South Carolina Is Known For May Surprise You

South Carolina is known for many wonderful things. Tourism alone brings world-wide attention to our beautiful beaches. History highlights the state as an instrumental part of the two major wars fought on what is now American soil, and our food is surpassed by none. But as wonderful as these things are, there are three things that should be added to the list. From this point forward, add these things to the list of three things South Carolina is known for:

1. Advanced manufacturing, aerospace, and automotive production.

One of the biggest airplanes in the world is produced right here in the Palmetto State.

Boeing's Dreamliner 787 is manufactured in an enormous indoor facility in North Charleston that's so big... six or eight planes at a time are in production in the massive production hanger. Learn more about Boeing's South Carolina manufacturing hub, here.
Additionally, South Carolina is home to nearly 500 companies related to the production of vehicles.

Automotive manufacturers such as BMW, Mercedes, and Volvo all have manufacturing facilities in the state. According to the South Carolina Department of Commerce, South Carolina is the #1 automobile exporter in the country. That's tremendous and deserves recognition!
2. Most South Carolinians don't realize how much people from outside the state LOVE Myrtle Beach. Tourism may not surprise you about The Grand Strand, but Myrtle Beach sees more visitors each year than Charleston, Greenville, and Columbia combined.

Skipping 2020 figures due to the pandemic and looking back to 2019, Myrtle Beach tourism drew in just over 20 million visitors for the year. In comparison, Charleston, Greenville, and Columbia combined barely broke the 17 million mark.
3. The Palmetto State is so much more than just a sandy paradise on the Atlantic Ocean. South Carolina is home to the oldest bottomland hardwood forest in the country.

In 2012, America added the forest to our list of national parks and it's about time the rest of the country experienced the magic of Congaree National Park.
Sure, our beaches are wonderful... but the fireflies that mate each May and June in Congaree are enchanting, to say the least.
