America’s Official Cat Museum, The Feline Historical Museum, Is Right Here In Ohio
The Feline Historical Museum in Ohio, located in the Cat Fanciers' Association Headquarters, showcases a vast collection of cat-themed memorabilia and is a must-visit for cat lovers.
If you didn't know that there's a cat museum in Ohio, you probably don't know that Ohio is also home to the Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA) Headquarters. The Feline Historical Museum in Alliance is housed on the first floor of the CFA headquarters, which showcases all things cat-themed. If you know a cat lover or two—or maybe you've got a few feline friends of your own—this is one road trip stop in the Buckeye State you simply have to make.
Home of the world’s largest registry of pedigreed cats, the Cat Fanciers’ Association is one of the most unique attractions in Ohio.
This non-profit actually dates back to 1906, but the museum was added in 2012.
On the first floor of the CFA headquarters, you'll find The Feline Historical Museum. What was once an old bank is now home to America's largest collection of cat memorabilia.
Admission to The Feline Historical Museum is free.
Here, you'll observe everything from cat artwork to the silver collar of the winner of America's first cat show in 1895. Pictured is The Cosey Collar, circa 1895.
Rumor has it, there is also a bank vault filled with cat dolls, according to RoadsideAmerica.com.
One of the most interesting exhibits is probably the cat house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
(Did you know there was such a thing?)
At the back of the museum, you'll find a small library of around 700 books about cats, as well as some unique history related to CFA and cat shows.
Note: You won't see live cats at the museum on a regular basis, but you could encounter some during a special event or program. Follow CFA - The Cat Fanciers' Association, Inc on Facebook to stay up to date.
You can visit this cat museum in Ohio on Tuesday - Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
