The Upcoming Winter Season Looks Warm And Wet For Cincinnati

As summer winds down, it seems everyone is talking about fall and all of the fun that comes along with it. But right after fall comes winter – a season that can be both beautiful and dreadful, even in the same day. As it goes in Cincinnati, our winter weather typically means experiencing all four seasons in the span of one week, but this year the Old Farmer’s Almanac thinks we should expect more warm than cold. Their winter predictions for 2018-2019 are out and you may be pleased to hear that Cincinnati’s upcoming winter is supposed to be way warmer than last year’s.

Weather predictions, especially for winter, can never make everyone happy. There are those who love a snowy, cold winter, and those who prefer to keep things warm. If you enjoy a mild winter, then you'll be happy to hear this year's thoughts from the Old Farmer's Almanac.

As you can see from the map below, most of the country is predicted to have a milder winter than normal. This prediction comes from an El Niño influenced weather pattern which will sweep the country this winter. Our area specifically is predicted to be mild and wet, rather than cold and snowy.

That means our outdoor scenery may look a bit more like this most days. A mild and wet winter means a lot of brown, from the trees to the grass, and of course the mud.

With mild winter temperatures and rain also comes ice. If the Almanac is correct, then chances are we may get a few of those infamous ice storms that tend to shut down the Queen City.

Along with the ice comes all the mud. Especially if we do get some ice and snow, and then the temperatures rise, you may consider investing in a good pair of boots and a new mop before winter hits.

Last winter, we saw a mixture of weather, but definitely our fair share of frigid days. And, of course, it's difficult to forget the massive flooding that occurred in February early this year.

If you just can't live without the snow, hopefully, the weather cooperates enough to enjoy outdoor favorites like Perfect North Slopes.

The Old Farmer's Almanac claims an 80% success rate with their predictions, and only time will tell what this winter will look like. While the cold can definitely be overbearing at times, some may secretly be hoping they are wrong so lovely wintry scenes like this will be found all over Cincinnati.

If you love blankets of snow and frigid nights spent warming up by the fire, you may be out of luck this upcoming winter.
