There’s No Attraction In The World Quite Like This One In Northern California

A tree house is a magical place and most of us have extremely fond memories of growing up climbing into one or wishing we could. Have you ever heard of an underground tree house, though? There's one right here in Northern California and it is hands down one of the coolest tree houses you'll probably ever lay eyes on. It is called the Eternal Tree House and it's located along the Avenue of Giants in Humboldt County.

The Eternal Treehouse is actually a a 20-foot-cave inside of a redwood stump. It was hollowed out by a prehistoric fire.

Free to the public and a popular roadside attraction along the Avenue of Giants, it's a great place to bring the whole family. It's a huge hit for the little ones, especially if they have been cooped up in the car all day.

There's a nearby cafe where you can grab food or a coffee, making this a great place to stop for a treat as you drive through the magnificent redwoods. The Avenue of the Giants is a 31 mile stretch along Highway 101 through the magnificent old growth Redwood trees.

Don't forget to sign the guest book! Passersby have been swinging through here for ages, and you will definitely want to add your name to the mix! Many visitors report feeling like a hobbit living underground when they enter this underground tree house.

This spot is located at 26510 Avenue of the Giants in Scotia. It's a popular stop along the famous Avenue of Giants.

Visitors to the Eternal Tree House Visitors step down into the sunken floor of the stump room. Windows are right at eye level. A rustic log chandelier of four light bulbs hangs from the ceiling of the stump, creating an interesting ambiance.

Children and adults who are young at heart get a tremendous kick out of exploring beneath this hidey-hole.

It wasn't always so roomy inside. It was carved from the inside out in the early 1900s by Harry McLeod. It was given windows and other additions in the 1950s. It's a charming little spot, the likes of which you won't see anywhere else in the world.
