A summer day at the lake is a perfect one in many people's books. Start off your road trip with a lovely stroll at Devils Lake. There are various parks, recreation areas, and even resorts around the largest natural lake in North Dakota. One great place to experience it is Grahams Island, a state park that is only accessible via one road. It's surrounded by water and has everything you need for a lovely stop. While you're headed west, you'll need to cross the Missouri River. Take the drive over the Four Bears Memorial Bridge and stop by this little recreation area. Even if only for a quick stop, the view from Crow Flies High Recreation Area is absolutely worth a little detour. After you snap some photos, get back on the road!
Even just the drive through this area can be breathtaking. The rugged terrain and "painted" walls are absolutely spectacular. Drive through or stop by and take a trail to appreciate it to the fullest extent. Don't be surprised if you see some wildlife such as bison!

Eat at one of local restaurants or even experience the Pitchfork Steak Fondue and the Medora Musical. Plenty of options for a place to stay!
The beautiful White Butte has the tallest point in all of North Dakota. You can hike to the top and say you've been there, just remember that it is on private land and the landowners appreciate that you respect the area and leave a small donation in the mailbox.
