Millions Of Monarch Butterflies Are Headed Straight For New York This Spring
Despite the fact that so many of New York’s regions saw brief snow showers this week, the spring season is upon us in the Empire State. As of lately, all the telltale signs of spring have been presenting themselves to us – with the sounds of birds chirping waking us up in the mornings and our days being filled with the sight of blossoming trees and flowers. In an exciting turn of events though, our state is about to see another sign of spring that’s due to hit our state with a wave of color. Ready or not, a sea of millions of monarch butterflies will be arriving to New York sooner than you might think!
Heading up north after spending the winter in Mexico, this year's Monarch Butterfly population is estimated to be the highest it's been in the last twelve years!
You may be used to seeing these butterflies during the summertime in regions like the Adirondack Mountains and down in New York City, but this year you won't have to wait as long.
Coming to the Empire State sometime between mid-May and late-June, it's difficult to predict the exact number of butterflies that will be migrating up our way - but we do know this year's size is significant.
Coming up to the northeast to snack on our milkweed plants and other desirable plants that are often found in and around our gardens, you'll soon want to start keeping an eye out for these orange creatures.
With an estimated, 121 million Monarch butterflies predicted to migrate up and through North America, we're certainly set to see a beautiful sea of color flying over us this spring.
