Long-abandoned houses and buildings can often give off a creepy vibe. They are, however, reminders of the past. Often, after sitting empty for long periods, nature takes over and reclaims them for its very own. Here is a look at 10 abandoned places that nature has reclaimed.
1. Lake Shawnee Amusement Park
The rides at the Lake Shawnee Amusement Park have not been used since 1966, but the park remains open. The rides have long been taken over by nature. Visitors don't come for the rides, but in hopes of spotting one of several ghosts said to haunt the park.
2. Abandoned home
This home has long been abandoned. It stands in Barbour County and nature is slowly taking it over.
3. Rotting classroom
This classroom has definitely seen better days.
4. Abandoned Church
This is an abandoned St. John's church located in Stotesbury.
5. Abandoned building in Point Pleasant
This abandoned building in Point Pleasant sits across from the old mental hospital. It was at one time a school for African-American boys.
6. Abandoned building
This old store's business days are long over. It is slowly being taken over by mother nature.
7. An abandoned home in a rural area
This old home is located in Jefferson county in Charles Town.
8. Abandoned gas station
This long-abandoned gas station sits along the main road not far from Morgantown.
9. Abandoned home in Tyler County
Nature is reclaiming this once beautiful home in Friendly. It was once owned by a well known doctor.
10. Abandoned apartment building
This abandoned apartment building sits on a main street in Wheeling.
It is possible that some of these old buildings have collapsed or been destroyed so it is a good thing that they were captured in this photographs. They may be gone, but they will not be forgotten.
