Take A Boardwalk Trail Through The Swamp Of The Ghost River In Tennessee
The Ghost River in La Grange, Tennessee, offers a unique wetland experience with tranquil waters, a scenic boardwalk trail, and kayaking opportunities.
Tennessee is well known for its beautiful mountains, incredible overlooks, and sweeping views from summits way up high. Our state is filled with natural beauty, but one thing you will not find much of is wetlands. But we do have one swamp in La Grange that will transport you to what feels like a whole other world.
The Ghost River is a section of the Wolf River.
This section of the river got its name from the lack of current flowing through. The water seems to disappear in some of the overgrowth and looks very still. The calm waters, lack of a current, and loss of water view all contribute to the name Ghost River.
There is a boardwalk trail that will take you through this beautiful area. It may only be a 0.7-mile loop, but you will want to soak in the pretty scenery all around you.
Walking the trail will make you feel like you've stepped into a whole new world. The peaceful stillness of the water and the towering trees make this a perfect place for a walk.
You will most likely be alone on this trail because it is secluded and not well known. If you are looking for solitude, you can find it on this peaceful boardwalk trail.
If paddling is more your speed, you can also take to the waters in a kayak.
The river will take you on an 8.4-mile point-to-point trail. The still waters of the Ghost River can be disorienting, so trail markers are used to guide your way.
Enjoy the large cypress trees and many other forms of vegetation in this beautiful swamp.
The stunning sunset peeking through the trees is a wonderful way to end the day in tranquility.
Whether you walk the boardwalk or glide through the water in a kayak, this river has a peaceful beauty to it. You may not feel like you are in Tennessee anymore, but we can assure you this is one of the loveliest swamps around - and it's just waiting to be explored.
