Deep within the forest is a plethora of hidden gems and wonderful waterfall hikes. One waterfall that beckons all travelers to explore is Margarette Falls in Greenville, Tennessee. This is a beautiful waterfall and one that makes the adventure of getting there so rewarding.
The Cherokee trail system is extremely vast.
You could easily get lost but thankfully there are great signs to guide you so that should not happen. Margarette Falls is a 2.4-mile out and back hike with 623 feet of elevation gain and rated as moderate. The trail starts you off for the first half mile on a fairly flat gravel path.
When you reach the end of the road you will see a trailhead sign.
The road will fork and you will want to veer to the right. Let the signs guide you and once you pass this section the trail is pretty well worn so it should be easy to follow from here.
The trail will narrow and you will see most of your elevation gain from here on out.
The forest is lush and green with lots to see. Be on the lookout for some places that even have lots of butterflies floating around giving the forest an enchanted look. You will also be traveling along the West Fork Dry Creek which will serenade you with a tranquil flow of water over the rocks. Along the way, tiny waterfalls can be seen as the current flows over downed trees or rocks.
The tail is simply beautiful and peaceful up to the falls.
You will cross a bridge and shortly after that, the trail begins to get steep again. You will be climbing up stone stairs, traversing a stream crossing, and climbing up a couple of rocks, all of this plays into the adventure of the trail.
When you get to Margarette Falls you will simply be blown away.
Take out a snack, find a rock and watch this 60-foot waterfall cascade down the jagged rocks. This waterfall is simply stunning. If you are feeling a little bit more adventurous then follow a steep path on the left side of the falls to a little cave near the top.
The pool of water is cool and a great place to stick your feet in after your journey.
