It's no secret that South Dakota is home to some pretty amazing hiking opportunities, but did you know that it is also home to some pretty amazing waterfalls? Do you know the best way to enjoy these waterfalls? By hiking them, of course! If you are ready for an adventure, lace up your hiking shoes and follow the five best hikes in South Dakota that lead to gorgeous waterfalls.

1. Cascade Falls (Hot Springs)

At the top of our list of the best hikes in South Dakota is Cascade Falls. Hiding out near the town of Hot Springs are the small but mighty Cascade Falls; a warm, 65 degree Fahrenheit stream of water that is not only perfect for photographing, but for soaking in as well. Learn more about Cascade Falls.

2. Bridal Veil Falls (Spearfish)

Quite possibly the most iconic of South Dakota waterfalls is the stunning Bridal Veil Falls, which sits at 60 feet tall and can be enjoyed during every season. (We aren't kidding; come winter, Bridal Veil Falls is THE place for ice climbing!) Find more on the official website of Visit Spearfish.

3. Spearfish Falls (Spearfish)

Located just down the road from Bridal Veil Falls, Spearfish Falls is an unbelievable 47-foot-tall cascade that is fed by the nearby Spearfish Creek. In addition to the falls themselves, the area also houses one of the most popular trails in the state: a 1.5-mile loop that passes some of the state's most colorful nature.

4. Roughlock Falls (Lead)

Arguably one of the most beautiful spots in the already breathtaking Black Hills is the Roughlock Falls State Nature Area and its namesake falls, which cascades over not only a 50-foot-tall ledge, but several smaller cliffs as well. (Can you see why this is one of the most photographed sites in South Dakota? We sure can!) Here's more information on Roughlock Falls Nature Area.

5. Falls Park (Sioux Falls)

Last but certainly not least is that of Sioux Falls: an eastern SoDak town of 183,000 that may be one of the most unique towns in America, thanks to its resident Falls Park. Sitting at 100-feet-tall, the falls drop an average 7,400 gallons of water PER SECOND, making for one of the most spectacular sights you will ever see. Stop by the website of Falls Park for more information.
