South Carolina's newest waterfront park opened in December 2020 to much local fanfare - and it's easy to see why. Old Town Bluffton just may be the most peaceful town in the entire state, and its newest park follows suit. Although not a huge park by any means, it packs a powerful punch when it comes to relaxation.
Grab a cold beverage (or a hot one, depending upon the season) and settle onto a bench at Wright Family Park — then feel your cares waste away as you gaze out over the 11-mile scenic May River.
When measured by land mass, Bluffton is the fifth largest municipality in the state. But sitting in Old Town along the May River will make you feel a million miles from everything.
Before the new park was built, the property looked like this.
But in 2017, the Town of Bluffton purchased the land from a local family and then went to work planning and gathering funds for the transformation.
And today, it's been renewed and looks like this.
Sidewalks line the perimeter and new landscaping is in place. Benches are scattered throughout, especially up front by the water.
In one direction, the park is green, and in the other...
All you see is a lazy, peaceful blue!
Across the street from the park is the historic Church of the Cross, constructed in 1857.
