The amazing thing about fall foliage is that it's everywhere, while the colors of spring tend to be simply pops of color here and there. As you plan for where to enjoy nature's artwork during the fall season, consider this under-the-radar spot that offers some of the most beautiful fall foliage in South Carolina!
The Dismal Loop Trail is located in Caesar's Head State Park in the small upstate town of Cleveland. And although you would never know it from this particular snapshot from the trail, it's considered a very strenuous hike.
In fact, it's such a difficult trail that a warning has been posted for hikers! The trail has some steep descents and a huge elevation change of 1200 feet. A hiker even had to be rescued following an injury on the trail one year.
Thankfully, you'll know ahead of time in case this might not be the best hike for you or so that you can prepare well for the conditions.
But if you're able to accommodate the challenges of Dismal Loop Trail, it will be well worth your time, especially during the fall season.
The trail has even been recognized by Travel + Leisure as a top fall hike in North America! Look up, down, and all around for beautiful, vivid fall hues.
The trail through the incredible fall foliage is just over 7.5 miles long and can take 4.5 hours to complete on average. If you've never hiked across a suspension bridge before, this is your chance.
You'll also encounter a very narrow crossing over the creek.
And if you're a sucker for a good waterfall, you'll adore this trail. It's the picture-perfect fall scene.
