South Carolina’s Niagara Falls Is Too Beautiful For Words
South Carolina's own Niagara Falls, located in Falls Park on the Reedy in Greenville, is a must-see urban waterfall.
Great news, South Carolinians! You no longer have to make sure your passport is current or drive more than 700 miles to see Niagara Falls. The Palmetto State has its own Niagara, and we can't sing its praises often enough. The Niagara Falls of South Carolina is a not-to-be-missed beautiful sight that's worthy of a trip to the Upstate if you've never seen it before.
Our very own Niagara Falls is located in one of the most up-and-coming cities in the nation, and has quite a few things in common with that 'other' Niagara Falls.
But first, a little history of the urban waterfall that's now at the center of attention for locals and visitors alike who flock to admire this natural wonder located within Falls Park on the Reedy in Greenville, S.C. The entire community was built around this waterfall, utilized for most of the time by various mills built upon the banks of the Reedy River. With mill operations followed pollution and generally unsavory water conditions. But all of that changed in the 1990s, when the city got serious about cleaning up the space.
Visitors from all over come just to stand on the observation deck (a.k.a. Liberty Bridge) and gawk in awe of this natural wonder. And it's easy to see why!
See more of it for yourself in the video below from youtube user Dean Sylvester:
I personally visited Reedy River Falls as a part of our Ultimate South Carolina Waterfalls Road Trip I took with my family for Mother's Day in 2020 – you know, that year we all were looking for creative ways to get outdoors?! It's really neat to see a beautiful waterfall like this one in the middle of the city, where you can also enjoy some of the eateries and shopping, too.
And along with the Liberty Bridge, another great feature of Falls Park is the one-mile loop trail, Reedy River Falls Loop Trail, meandering around the river and crossing it twice.
Falls Park and our state's own Niagara Falls is located at 601 S. Main St., Greenville, SC 29601. As one of the no hike waterfalls in South Carolina, it's easily accessible once you find parking if you're visiting during busier hours for Greenville's downtown.
Have you visited Falls Park recently? We'd love to know in the comments! Find out more about that observation deck known as Liberty Bridge in our prior published article.
