When looking for new trails to try out, the number of choices can be pretty overwhelming. In a state like South Carolina that's blessed with so many beautiful outdoor areas, there are simply too many options. One great trail that's not too difficult is the hike to Lake Issaqueena. While there are several different paths you can take to access the lake, all the trails tend to stay right around two miles or under, and they're fairly flat. This makes them suitable for even novice hikers that might not be prepared for an all-day trek.
The lake itself is stunning. You may want to bring a camera or pack a picnic lunch. It's so relaxing to just enjoy the views!
Fans of fungi and wildlife, rejoice! There's plenty to see here.
The trail is fairly flat, so it's also popular with bikers.
No matter what season you check out Lake Issaqueena, it's truly beautiful.
The lake and trails are inside the Clemson Experimental Forest, a research forest used by Clemson University.
However, visitors are allowed to use the area for recreational purposes as well.
Fishing is allowed on the lake, so if you care to, feel free to pack a pole!

The trail to Lake Issaqueena connects to the slightly more difficult Lawrence Cemetery Loop. It's a neat trail that features a historic cemetery, but it isn't as well-marked and can involve some cutting through the underbrush. If you're looking for less of a challenge, just stay on West Dam Road after passing the dam. Check for updates to these trails on AllTrails.
