When springtime makes its way to Pittsburgh, we’ll be spending more time outdoors, soaking up the golden sunshine and enjoying the spring breeze before summer’s heat arrives. One of the best, most relaxing ways to take advantage of spring is on a picturesque hike. This riverfront trail in Pittsburgh is the perfect waterside springtime hike. Without further ado, here's more information on Millvale Riverfront Park and why you should plan your trip there ASAP.
Celebrate spring with a trek along the North Shore Riverfront Trail, a seven-mile trail that meanders along the Allegheny and the Ohio Rivers. (It’s part of the longer Three Rivers Heritage Trail.)
Millvale Riverfront Park is an ideal place to park your car and to set off on your springtime hike. You might want to bring a bottle of water or two and some sunscreen, especially if it’s a warm day.
North Shore Riverfront Trail will take you along the Allegheny River and past some of the most popular attractions on the North Shore – Three Rivers Casino, PNC Park, and the Carnegie Science Center, for example.
Arguably one of the best parts of the trail is the fact you can stop and explore before continuing your hike. Check into the Science Center; stop by Mister Rogers’ statue, or sit down for a delicious meal at Southern Tier Brewing Company.
The trail also spans the entirety of North Shore Riverfront Park – from the Roberto Clemente Bridge to the science center. At the park, you can kick back and relax on the Great Lawn, or admire the views from the Market Street Pier.
If it’s a really warm day, stop by the Water Steps (if they’re open), where you can dip your feet in the water to cool off. It’s also a good spot to just sit down, to relax, and to enjoy the views.
