This Beautiful Boardwalk Trail Near Pittsburgh Is The Most Unique Hike Around

Most hiking trails have that one feature - a majestic waterfall or an old-fashioned footbridge, for example - that really stands out as the highlight of the trail. This boardwalk trail near Pittsburgh, however, has so many beautiful traits, from small waterfalls to a hidden cave, that it boasts a whole list of highlights.

Tucked in Montour Woods Conservation Area in Coraopolis, Meeks Run Trail promises sheer natural beauty and plenty of surprises.

Stroll along the boardwalk of the nearly two-mile trail, but be prepared to get your feet muddy, especially after a rainfall. The boardwalk stretches across some of the trail but not all of it.

Meeks Run Trail travels next to a flowing creek. While there's a footbridge over one part of the creek, you'll have to actually get your feet wet by crossing in the creek at two points.

Your best bet is to wear waterproof hiking shoes or boots or, if you notice large enough rocks, try crossing over on the rocks.

Take your time on the picturesque trail that features tiny waterfalls and...

A cave. Since it's predominately flat, Meeks Run Trail is considered easy to moderate, depending on your hiking skills.

Flanked by trees, the trail provides an abundance of shade, particularly useful during the warmer months. Meeks Run Trail also connects to several other trails, such as the Cave Trail, if you want to add time to your hike.
