This boardwalk hike near Pittsburgh, although a bit of a trek to get to, promises plenty of beautiful scenery and the opportunity to re-connect with nature.
Escape the noise of life with a hike along the Asbury Loop Trail, just one of a series of picturesque trails at Asbury Woods Nature Area in Erie.
Sure, you’ll have a bit of a drive – just about two hours, depending on traffic – to reach your destination, but it’s definitely worth the effort, especially if you love hiking and nature.
Bring the kiddos and your pooch along, too, (as long as pup is on and remains on a leash) to journey along this 2.5-mile trail that can get quite busy at times.
Wear sturdy hiking boots or shoes and be careful if you’re visiting after a rainfall as the trail can get slippery in spots.
The boardwalk sometimes closes, so if that’s the reason you want to hike Asbury Woods Loop, make sure you call ahead to see if it’s open.
In addition to the picturesque boardwalk, the trail features a wooden footbridge, plenty of lush tall trees (perfect for keeping you shaded during the warmer months), and views of Walnut Creek.
Before or after your hike, stop by the Nature Center, if you’re there during visiting hours. The Nature Center offers educational events and programs, including walk-in programs.
Set off on one of the picturesque hikes in Asbury Woods. Trails are open all-year around from dawn to dusk daily. However, the Nature Center is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
