Here Are the Best Times and Places To View Oregon’s Fall Foliage in 2025
Oregon offers stunning fall foliage but timing is everything. You don't want to miss the peak colors this year.

It’s the time of year when pumpkins and squash are harvested, ciders are brewed, and the leaves turn from green into a beautiful array of gold, orange, and rust, making the landscape look like a painting. I know I’m ready to get out there and see all the natural beauty during fall in Oregon, but when exactly do the leaves change color in Oregon?
Generally, Oregon's fall foliage comes in waves, with the northern regions seeing fall colors first. For an especially stunning display of fall colors, head to the Portland Japanese Garden in early October to see its famous tree, which will be bursting with color and is utterly breathtaking to behold.
During the same time, take a quick drive to Multnomah Falls where the rushing waterfall is framed by gold and orange trees. Head to the bridge to take in the splendor of the Columbia River Gorge. You can even make a day out of your adventure and explore the Columbia River Scenic Byway and take in even more lively colors and waterfalls.

By the middle of October, the eastern part of the state will be a sight to behold with autumn's fiery foliage. For a fall adventure, head to Emigrant Springs State Heritage Area, where you’ll see the colorful deciduous trees intermingled with the evergreen conifers. You’ll also be able to see a part of Oregon Trail history!
Another beautiful place to view Oregon’s fall colors is the town of Bend. The town’s parks are wonderful places for viewing foliage, and the colorful trees really pop in contrast with the evergreen trees. However, you'll want to visit this area by the middle of October or you may miss the spectacular scene.
By Halloween, the majority of fall's colors in the Beaver State will have disappeared. This means you'll want to plan your autumn adventure today. Whether you choose a road trip, a visit to a mountain town, or even a simple hike, get out and enjoy this magical time of the year.
