Standing at 65 feet tall, Brandywine Falls at Cuyahoga Valley National Park is arguably the most stunning waterfall in the Buckeye State.
If you have a waterfall bucket list for Ohio, this one belongs at the top.
Berea Sandstone caps the waterfall, protecting softer layers of Bedford and Cleveland shales below, which were formed nearly 350-400 million years ago.
It’s best to visit the falls after a heavy rainfall, but all throughout the year this waterfall flows pretty powerfully.
The Stanford Trail will lead you to the boardwalks at the base of the falls. It's a moderate 1.75 mile hike that takes a little more than an hour to complete.
If you’d rather not take the 1.75-mile hike to the falls, you can drive to the upper and lower boardwalks, which are located just off of Brandywine Road.
The short boardwalk trails are perfect when you want to get outside and enjoy nature but you don't want to break a sweat.
Note: A boardwalk option without stairs is also available.
You can hear the waterfall before you see it - and the anticipation builds the closer you get to the roar of rushing water.
Near the falls, the 1.5-mile Brandywine Gorge Trail allows you to explore beyond the waterfall and see other views of the creek.
We recommend visiting this picture-perfect waterfall in the autumn, as the weather cools and leaves begin to change. It's especially beautiful framed in the vibrant fall foliage.
