5 Hikes With the Best Sunset Views in Ohio

There are few things more magical than a sunset hike in Ohio. This list includes some of the best places to watch the sun disappear.

No two sunsets are exactly alike, and for that reason, sunset views never get old. If you agree, you'll want to explore the following list of hikes with the best sunset views in Ohio. Beautiful in their own right, these trails become positively resplendent under a sky tinted with shades of pink, red, and orange. Come with us as we explore stunning overlooks, waterfront views, and even the state's most iconic lighthouse for an unforgettable sunset show.

1. Edgewater Park - Cleveland

Edgewater Park is one of the best places in Ohio to enjoy a breathtaking Lake Erie sunset. The Edgewater Beach Trail is a 1.4-mile out-and-back hike that showcases the beauty of Lake Erie and offers panoramic views of Downtown Cleveland. If you time it right, you'll see the sky transform into a magical color palette. (Fun fact: If you're more of a morning person, Edgewater Park is also an epic place to watch the sunrise!)

2. Hoover Dam - Westerville

The atmosphere at Hoover Dam Park is serene, especially as the sun begins to sink below the horizon. You'll take the Hoover Dam Park Loop, an easy, one-mile circuit that lets you capitalize on sunset and water views. It's a popular trail year-round and a dog-friendly hike in Ohio, but pups must stay on their leash. One recent hiker shares what makes this secluded hike so visit-worthy: "I hike this trail multiple times a week. It's lovely. Usually not that many people. Depending on the time of day, it could be completely empty." Our advice? Head to Schneider's Bakery beforehand to pack some of their iconic cookies to enjoy on the trail!

3. Ledges Trail - Peninsula

The Ledges Overlook at Cuyahoga Valley National Park may be one of the most iconic hiking destinations in Ohio, and for good reason. It offers an awe-inspiring view and will make you feel like you've climbed to a mountaintop—a rare experience in Ohio. To begin, you'll want to park at Park at the Ledges Trailhead (405 Truxell Road, Peninsula, Ohio 44264). The loop trail is 2.7 miles and is considered to be moderately challenging. The trail will begin with a steep descent and end with a steep incline, so you'll want to wear sturdy shoes, especially in winter when patches of ice are present. After your hike, treat yourself to a dinner at the nearby Carpe Raci Italian Restaurant.

4. Marblehead Lighthouse

It's hard to imagine a more perfect ending to any day than watching the sun disappear over the Lake Erie horizon at Marblehead Lighthouse. Built in 1821, it's the oldest Great Lakes lighthouse and makes quite an impression. Visitors can walk to the structure via a 0.3-mile loop, the perfect option for a quick sunset jaunt. Parking is free and available at the Marblehead Lighthouse Historical Society.

5. Antrim Park - Worthington

A 1.3-mile loop around Antrim Lake proves to be magical if you time it just right. The sun transforms into spectacular colors, which are then reflected back by the lake's calm surface. This lake loop is popular, but less so during the early evening, meaning you can look forward to a secluded adventure. One recent visitor described the trail as "[s]afe, clean and beautiful. Excellent place to walk the dog, cycle, run or simply enjoy nature."
