Laverock Nature Trail at Hawkins Brook in Meredith offers a boardwalk trail in New Hampshire that's perfect for a day out!
The route is 1.2 miles round trip and can be accessed next to the Meredith Village Saving Bank and the Prescott Park tennis courts.
If you begin your journey at Prescott Park, you'll begin with a crushed stone trail leading through pine and birch woods.
There are lovely views of Hawkins Brook along the way. If you're lucky you might even catch a Great Blue Heron!
After the crushed stone path, visitors will come to the 1,450-foot boardwalk portion of the trail.
Running along Hawkins Brook, there are plenty of places to stop on viewing platforms to take in the view.
And there are educational signs with information on the ecology of the area.
The trail is out-and-back, so when you get to the end all you need to do is turn around and head back the same way you came. Or, you can arrange to be picked up at the opposite end's trail head.
This is a beautiful way to enjoy the outdoors in an accessible environment. You might even make a few new feathered friends along the way!
