Visit This Recreation Area In Montana That’s Home To A Well-Hidden Secret Waterfall

Montana's long, cold winters are perfect for planning future trips to some of the state's top outdoor attractions. And if you live anywhere near Big Timber, you may have already experienced the magic of Natural Bridge Falls. If you haven't, add this place to your bucket list immediately. Not only is it beautiful, it's a bit of a hidden gem.

Natural Bridge Falls is a recreation site and day use area located near Big Timber.

This beautiful water-carved canyon offers amazing rock formations, stunning overlooks, and a breathtaking waterfall.

The area was named for a gravity-defying limestone arch that once spanned the Boulder River, located just above the falls.

In 1988, that natural arch collapsed due to limestone’s easy erodibility. These days, there's a man-made bridge to take visitors from one side of the river to the other.

The Boulder River is constrained by a deeply cut chasm during high water.

At low water, the river once flowed under the natural arch.

At high water, the river flows over a 105-foot-tall limestone rock layer, creating the waterfall.

This is Natural Bridge Falls, and it's a true hidden gem.

There are plenty of fantastic places in the area to view the waterfall.

While the river doesn't flow over the waterfall as strongly in the wintertime, it does make for some amazing ice walls.

This recreation site also serves as the trailhead for the Green Mountain Trail.

There you'll find easily accessible paved trail, picnic tables, and more breathtaking views.
