It might not seem like it, but spring is almost officially upon us. And while some of our hiking trails will remain covered in snow for a few more months, many of them are beautiful and accessible in April and May. These are a few of our favorite spring hikes.
1. Drinking Horse Mountain Trail
This short and sweet 2-mile hike is located just outside of Bozeman, so you'll have amazing views of Bridger Canyon and the Gallatin Valley. You'll also find picnic tables at the top, so you can enjoy lunch with a view.
2. Pine Creek Falls
You'll find the 2.5-mile Pine Creek Falls Trail at the Pine Creek Campground about 17 miles south of Livingston. You'll hike through a mature forest, past a babbling brook to a beautiful waterfall.
3. Camas Lake Trail
Located near Hamilton, this 4.8-mile lakeside trail is perfect for an early May adventure. Other than a fairly steep incline, this hike is a breeze.
4. Sourdough Creek
If you need to get back into shape after taking winter off, head to Bozeman and find the Sourdough Creek Trail. It's only 1.5 miles long, and you'll enjoy a relaxing forest setting.
5. Maclay Flat Nature Trail
For an easy outside that's just outside the Missoula city limits, check out the trail at Maclay Flat. The 1.7-mile loop offers a wide path and great mountain views — and you can bring your dogs along.
6. Boiling River Trail
The Boiling River is located right on the Montana-Wyoming border, and the 1.3-mile trail leading to it located near Gardiner. Even if you take a hike on a cool day, you'll have a nice hot reward waiting for you.
7. Highline Trail
The Highline Trail one of Glacier National Park's most popular hikes. It begins at the Logan Pass Visitors Center to The Loop Trail Head along the Garden Wall. For best results, go in late May.
8. Beehive Creek Trail
You'll find the Beehive Creek Trail outside of Ennis, and the 1.6-mile path is pleasant in any season. It's especially beautiful in May and early June, just before summer.
We're lucky to live in a state with hundreds of amazing hikes. If you're a beginner, check out one of these trails for mere mortals.
