The Secret Park In Montana You’ve Never Heard Of But Need To Visit

Clark's Lookout State Park in Montana offers historical insights and scenic views, making it a must-visit for history buffs and nature lovers.

Montana has 55 state parks, and each one has its own unique character. But while most Montanans flock to our most popular parks, there are still a few hidden gems out there that don't draw the crowds. If you're interested in learning more about local history, check out Clark's Lookout State Park. It's an interesting (and beautiful) place to spend an afternoon.

Clark's Lookout State Park is located mile north of Dillon, just above the Beaverhead River.

Since it's only an eight-acre park, it's easily overlooked -- but it has a lot to offer.

The park has hiking trails, picnic areas, cultural and heritage information, and some of the best views in the area.

And while there's no camping allowed here, you're welcome to spend the entire day enjoying it.

In 1805, the Lewis and Clark Expedition made its way here (hence the name).

Having traveled from the headwaters of the Missouri River and up the Jefferson River to continue their search for a passage to the Pacific Ocean, they came across this amazing view.

The vista from the top of the hill provided Lewis & Clark and the Corps of Discovery with a preview of what was ahead for them.

From the vantage point, Clark took compass readings and then sketched a map of the Beaverhead Valley.

Visitors can check out the monument and take in the same views that Clark did.

Montana has undergone a lot of changes since 1805, but the views are great reminders that some things do stay the same.

Clark's Lookout State Park is a must-see for history buffs and nature lovers alike.

The park is open from 8 a.m. until sunset, so you'll have plenty of time to explore.
