Chief Plenty Coups State Park is located near the base of the Pryor Mountains.
This Montana historic park encompasses about 195 acres.
The park is best known for being the home of Chief Plenty Coups, the last chief of the Crow Nation.
The home is now a National Historic Landmark.
Chief Plenty Coups experienced a vision when he was very young that non-Native American people would ultimately take control of his homeland of Montana, and he always felt that cooperation would benefit his people more than resistance.
His log home is a monument to his efforts to bring cultures together.
Guests at this Montana hidden gem park can tour the house and farmstead during their operating hours, which tend to be Wednesday - Sunday during the winter.
It's open daily in the summer from mid-May until mid-September.
While exploring the park, you'll find plenty of monuments to this man of peace, including his gravesite.
Don't forget to visit the chief's sacred spring, where you can leave an offering or spend some time in meditation.
This park is perfect for learning more about Montana's past.
