The Most Romantic Valentine’s Day Hike You’ll Find in Missouri
Hikers, this one's for you: The most romantic hiking trail in Missouri is just waiting for new memories to be made.
Think fast: What would you say if I asked what you consider romantic? I bet the first few things to pop into your head are the classics: you know, chocolates, candles, delicious meals, bubble baths. These are all fine, of course, but for some, they're just not... quite... enough. In my case, for example, a hiking trip could be the ultimate romantic activity. Lucky for us outdoorsy folk, there are plenty of hiking trails in Missouri that I would characterize as "romantic," thanks to views, waterfalls, etc. Today, I want to talk about the Russell Mountain to Taum Sauk Trail.
Coming in at just about nine miles long, this incredible adventure features some of the most beautiful views in the entire state and awe-inspiring canyons that immerse the hiker in Missouri's full splendor. It's the perfect place for romantic memories to be made; it looks and feels like something out of a fantasy novel more than anything you'd find in lil ol' Missourah.
On this hike, you'll explore all the best features of Taum Sauk Mountain State Park. There are countless adventures to be had along the way; I'm not even sure which one is more romantic - the panoramic views you'll stumble upon or the waterfall.
This trail leads you straight to Mina Sauk Falls, which sometimes tends to freeze over in the winter (but not always!) and looks truly splendiferous year-round, ice or no ice. Ice is not unheard of on this hike in winter, so wear shoes that offer you some grip and friction to avoid slipping on rocks. Nobody needs to fall on their romantic hiking adventure. That's the opposite of romantic.
Together, you'll take in some jaw-dropping sights. Lay your head on your partner's shoulder while relaxing near the waterfall. If you're feeling particularly bold, there are several amazing overlooks perfect for a photogenic proposal - or, of course, there's always the waterfall.
The trail can be difficult to navigate in parts, as it's not entirely well-marked. I recommend downloading a trail map before you go; if you get AllTrails Plus, you can do that. I have found it intensely helpful and can't complain - I'm not even sure how I managed to hike before I had it.
While hiking this one, remember a few things: This trail is rated as moderately challenging, and folks with mobility issues might find the inclines and granite trail difficult to navigate. Oh, and be sure to come back when the weather is warmer, too. This trail is majestic as all get out when it's in full greenery.
