The Iconic Hiking Trail In Missouri Is One Of The Coolest Outdoor Adventures You’ll Ever Take

Missouri has some pretty amazing hiking trails that promise breathtaking views, beautiful waterfalls, and unique rock formations. However, one Missouri trail, the longest rail trail in the United States, towers above the rest in terms of epic adventures. Even if we're not up for the 240-mile trek that awaits on the Katy Trail, we can still tackle it, one section at a time, starting with this hiking trail in Jefferson City, Missouri.

Carve out at least half a day for your journey along the 10.4-mile North Jefferson to Hartsburg section of the Katy Trail. It's an easy one, so don't expect too many challenges along the way.

This section of the Katy Trail is predominately flat (and comprised of gravel), which appeals to adventurers of all sorts - hikers, walkers, and bikers.

Families with kiddos will find the trail is kid-friendly, too. You can also bring your pup along. Just be sure to keep him leashed, and always pick up after him.

Since it's open all year, you can hike the epic Missouri trail whenever the mood strikes and the weather cooperates. Keep an eye out, though, for poison ivy.

While you'll certainly want to lather on the sunscreen during the warmer months, you will find that large chunks of the trail provide ample shade.

However, along some parts of the path, you'll be directly under the sun, so be prepared.

Since it's a rather long trail, you might want to bring along snacks or a picnic. You'll pass picnic tables and plenty of benches that offer an ideal opportunity to relax.
