This Little-Known Trail is Quite Possibly the Best Hiking and Walking Path in Missouri

Clocking in at under two miles, this short and sweet trail doesn't skimp on the scenery.

Hidden gems are interesting, aren't they? We may stumble upon a destination - a restaurant, a natural wonder, or a hiking trail - that's an absolute surprise to us. But to the locals? That hidden gem we discovered might be a long-loved local spot, like this hiking trail in New Offenburg, Missouri. If you've not yet explored this pretty path, what are you waiting for? Grab your hiking boots and let's explore this little-known trail in Missouri.

Among the four official trails that meander through the nearly 5,000-acre Hawn State Park, Pickle Creek Trail is the shortest, tallying just 1.6 miles. If you want to make a longer, loop hike, then you can start on the Whispering Pines Trail and hike that trail for the first mile, and then connect to the Pickle Creek Trail.

With its easy rating, the picturesque path appeals to hikers of all ages and skill levels, including kiddos and leashed dogs. Some hikers, however, assert that the trail is more on the moderate side. Keep that in mind before setting off.

While it's considered easy, the out-and-back trail features some rocky terrain, which could pose a challenge if you're a newbie or are a bit out of shape.

As with any hiking trail, the proper gear makes all the difference in the world. A good pair of hiking boots and maybe even some hiking poles will do the hard work for you!

Following Pickle Creek, the scenic trail in Missouri passes tiny waterfalls, lush greenery, and the creek itself.

You will have to cross Pickle Creek, so be sure to wear shoes that you don't mind getting wet. Pack plenty of bug spray, and lather up, because Pickle Creek Trail can get distractingly buggy. This is true of most waterfront trails.

If you're hiking when it's hot or sunny, you'll find that the trees offer a canopy of shade. (You'll probably still want to bring extra sunscreen, though.)

This is a Missouri hike that's worth the effort - even just for the views - in each season. Every season brings its own beauty. Spring and summer are when you'll find plenty of beautiful blooms peppering the path, while autumn brings those mesmerizing fall colors. Even in the winter, there's still an abundance of natural beauty to admire (and fewer bugs).

If you're hiking during the winter, you may find you have the trail to yourself.
