We can pretty much find whatever we’re looking for when it comes to hiking. Set off on an epic adventure, for example, on the Big Piney Trail, a picturesque trail in Plato, Missouri. Many have said that this is one of the best hiking trails in Missouri and we can’t disagree. But we encourage you to see it for yourself. Don’t leave for this hike without downloading AllTrails so that you can easily navigate the trail as you trek.
Big Piney Trail winds 16.4 miles through Paddy Creek Wilderness Area, nestled in Mark Twain National Forest, making it an ideal trail if you're up for a backpacking adventure.
However, if it's a day hike you're after, you should be able to complete the trail in under seven hours.
Snagging a moderate rating, the picturesque path is well-marked but poses some challenges. The trail tends to be overgrown in spots.
Ticks and bugs are in abundance along the trail, so you'll definitely want to lather on and bring plenty of insect repellant.
You'll have to make several water crossings along the trail, so keep that in mind when you're choosing your hiking shoes.
Despite its challenges, the trail is bursting with natural beauty from local wildlife to colorful wildflowers in the warmer months.
Big Piney Trail leads to several stunning overlooks that are absolutely magical in each season. Soak up the beauty of the fall foliage, and...
Marvel as the landscape turns into a wonderland on a snowy winter day.
If you're up for an overnight backpacking adventure, you'll find primitive sites to pitch a tent. Remember to take whatever you've brought with you back out at the end of your journey.
