This Little-Known Trail Is Quite Possibly the Best Walking Path in Mississippi

Sitting pretty in northeast Mississippi, Tupelo is one of my favorite cities to explore. With a population that hovers just under 40,000 residents, Tupelo is a big city that still holds onto its small-town charm. Tupelo is most well-known for being the birthplace of Elvis Presley, and fans might be surprised to learn about this little-known nature trail in Tupelo that the King grew up playing around. Whether you're visiting Tupelo on a day trip or live in a nearby town, this charming park is worthy of your time. Let’s check it out:

Veterans Park is a 206-acre park with endless attractions to keep the entire family entertained. It’s home to the Tupelo Aquatic Center, three disc golf courses, four softball fields, a splash pad, and the Veterans Memorial. The Music Bend Nature Trail is right next door, technically located in the Tupelo Bark Park. It’s really all one big park separated by Veterans Memorial Boulevard. The entrance to the trail is right by the ballfields.

The trail clocks in at approximately four miles and makes a loop around the entire area. AllTrails has a map of the entire trail.

This nature trail in Tupelo is mostly sand with some dirt, so you’ll want to watch the weather before heading over. It’s not the end of the world if you catch the trail after a rainy day, but it’ll be muddy. Feel free to bring your pup along for the adventure, just make sure to keep them on a leash.

The park sits in the shadows of Elvis Presley’s childhood home, and Elvis and his friends would often play in these woods.

Much of the trail runs parallel to Mud Creek. This was a popular swimming hole for the King of Rock and Roll. Pretty neat to walk around an area where Elvis Presley’s childhood memories were made!

If the four-mile loop trail has you yearning for more, head across the street for even more scenic strolls. The ponds at Veterans Memorial Park are just dreamy places to sit for a spell, take in the view, and remember our fallen soldiers.
