With More Than 1,530 Acres To Explore, Mississippi’s Largest State Park Is Worthy Of A Multi-Day Adventure

With over 20 state parks in Mississippi, you can bet there's always an adventure to be had. Tishomingo State Park is one of the most popular state parks in Mississippi, and for good reason! With more than 1,500 acres to explore, this beautiful state park is a scenic oasis just waiting for you. Grab your sneakers and let's check it out:

Nestled snuggly at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Tishomingo State Park attracts visitors from all walks of life, and it’s easy to see why.

Since the Natchez Trace Parkway runs through the park, it’s a popular stop off for folks taking this historic scenic drive.

The park was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps and opened to the public in 1939.

Many of the original structures, like the cabin pictured above, can still be viewed. Don’t worry, more modern cabins have since been constructed.

Tishomingo is known for its unique landscape and huge rock formations which aren’t typical of most of Mississippi.

These rock formations make the park appealing to rock climbers, too!

There are seven different hiking trails that weave throughout the park.

They vary in difficulty and length, but they're all under three miles long.

The park has a lot of Native American history, which you'll learn more about at the Visitor Center.

The park was named after Chief Tishomingo, a leader of the Chickasaw Tribe. Archaeologists have discovered that this land was inhabited by early, Paleo Indians as far back as 7000 B.C.

Pictured above is what's called a Trail Tree. You may have seen them before, but it's believed that these trees were bent by Native Americans as a trail marker and a way to show safe passage.

Recreational fun doesn’t stop at the trails. Visitors to the park can enjoy multiple disc golf courses, a compass course, volleyball courts, canoe rentals, and so much more.

The 45-acre lake is a prime spot to do a little fishing.
