This Easy Louisiana Hiking Trail Delivers Big Views for a Romantic Valentine’s Day

With beautiful views and a short and sweet route, this might just be the most romantic hiking trail in Louisiana.

Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching…how will you be spending it? While a box of chocolates and a bouquet of flowers are the traditional approach, why not spend an afternoon outdoors with your loved one embarking on a romantic hiking trail in Louisiana?

There are so many incredible hiking trails in Louisiana—each one would be worthy of a Valentine’s Day hike. My favorite hiking trails always include a fabulous view, and the Longleaf Vista Interpretive Trail has some of the best views in the state. Grab your loved one and tackle this hiking trail that’s perfect for Valentine’s Day.

There are dozens and dozens of hiking trails in the Kisatchie National Forest. Louisiana’s only National Forest covers over 600,000 acres, and these primitive trails will show you a whole new side of Louisiana. From rolling hills to tree-top views, it’s truly a special place and easily one of the most underrated places in Louisiana.

The Longleaf Vista Interpretive Trail is a 1.4-mile loop trail that will take you underneath canopies of Longleaf pines and through some of Louisiana’s most unique landscapes. You’ll find the area much more hilly than your typical Louisiana hikes, that’s for sure!

Since the trail is under two miles, it’s not going to take too long to complete. Perfect for other Valentine’s Day plans! The trail is well marked, but an AllTrails+ account is always a good idea whenever you’re hiking in remote areas.

It is a primitive trail, so your experience will be dictated by the weather. The trails in the Kisatchie can get very muddy if you visit after a rainfall. Make sure you're wearing hiking shoes that you won't mind getting dirty.

You’ll find a pavilion and some seating at the Longleaf Vista Recreation Center, plus plenty of parking. This is the perfect spot to bust out those chocolates and enjoy the view. Even better if you time your visit around sunset! It's these views that earn this trail the most romantic trail in Louisiana.

Pups are welcome to join in on the fun, just make sure they are kept on a leash. Overall, this is an easy trail with a few steeper sections and stairs. Those Vista views are so rare for Louisiana, so soak them in!

After your hike, head over to Alexandria to enjoy a delicious meal. Diamond Grill is the perfect place to eat on Valentine’s Day. This seafood and steakhouse in downtown Alexandria is housed in a former jewelry store that operated from 1865 to 1931.
