Hike Less Than One Mile To Two Spectacular Waterfalls In Idaho

The Sage Hen Nature Trail in Idaho offers a short, family-friendly hike through forests to a beautiful waterfall.

Tucked away in the Boise National Forest you will find Sage Creek Reservoir. This 232-acre reservoir in Idaho is surrounded by tall trees and beautiful forests and it is a popular location for fishing and boating. Five campgrounds are located nearby, which are each perfect when you want to escape into nature. While you can always spend your time at the lake, we recommend going on a short and easy hike. But, this isn’t just any hike — the Sage Hen Nature Trail in Idaho takes you to quite the magical sight.

The Sage Hen Nature Trail is short and simple — perfect for the entire family. This is a 0.7-mile loop trail that is quite easy and flat. It is also well-maintained, making it easy to follow for your entire journey.

Plus, you will get to enjoy some shade for the vast majority of this trail as you will walk through forests filled with spruce, fir, and pine trees.

As you walk, you’ll come across a three-panel information kiosk, picnic table, and many benches. While the trail may be short, take your time and just enjoy immersing yourself in the outdoors.

Eventually, you will come to the waterfalls. While these falls are not large, they are still very beautiful.

You can just sit by the side and listen to the falling water …

… or stand on top of the falls for a unique perspective.

If possible, visit these falls in the spring when the creek is roaring. Then, you’ll truly get an impressive sight.

But no matter when you make the trek on the Sage Hen Nature Trail, the waterfalls, forests, creek, and other natural features in the area are sure to be a spectacular sight.
