Few People Know About This Crystal-Clear Alpine Lake in Idaho
Alpine Lake in Idaho's Sawtooth Mountains offers a challenging yet rewarding hiking experience with stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere.
Idaho offers all types of destinations where you can get away and find a little quiet. One of these destinations is Alpine Lake, a beautiful, tucked-away lake in the Sawtooth Mountains. Not only is there a hike required to reach the lake, but it’s also less known, and you are more likely to enjoy a little time to yourself. It’s a great trail to lace up your hiking boots, have a camera ready, and just enjoy some time outside. Some come along as we show you what we proudly boast as one of the best lakes in Idaho!
Some of my favorite hiking trails are located in the Sawtooth Mountains. All of these trails are beautiful and worth every effort. The Alpine Lake Trail is one of them. While two Alpine Lakes are in the area, this particular trail begins at the Iron Creek Campground outside of Stanley. This is an out-and-back trail that is approximately 7.6 miles. It will challenge you physically and mentally as you will gain more than 1,200 feet in elevation on your journey. Make sure you take your time and take breaks as needed — you’ll want your energy to enjoy the final destination.
The journey itself is remarkable, and the scenery will certainly take your breath away. You will walk through forested areas and find yourself surrounded by the most remarkable mountain views. Truly, it’s hard to find more stunning natural beauty than this!
Summer is the best time to tackle the Alpine Lake Trail from the Iron Creek Campground, as wildflowers will fill the meadows and line the trails as you hike. This journey is just one way that you can admire some of Mother Nature's greatest creations — it's a little slice of heaven.
Once you reach Alpine Lake, you’ll be grateful you made the journey. The bold, rugged mountains surround the lake, creating a picture-perfect backdrop. The water itself is clear and beautiful, creating the ultimate scene. Time in this area is nature therapy at its best.
While you can always sit back and enjoy the view before venturing home, bring some camping gear and spend the night. This lake is a beautiful backpacking destination. There really is no better way to wake up than to these views!
