If you’re looking to visit some of the most under-appreciated state parks in the Sunflower State, we’ve got the perfect road trip planned for you next time you have a few days free! This trip features five great parks that feature plenty of opportunities for hiking, exploring, and sightseeing.
The trip will take you through eastern Kansas and you'll want to allow for about 5.5 hours of driving time. You can check out the customizable itinerary on Google Maps and add or remove stops if you like.
Hillsdale State Park, Paola, KS 66071, USA
Hillsdale State Park is right on the shores of Hillsdale Lake. Here, you'll find hiking trails and campsites. The man-made lake was constructed for flood control purposes, but it's a great site for fishing and recreational activities. The park is not far from Kansas City.

Sand Hills State Park boasts over 14 miles of hiking trails, and it's filled with wildflowers during the warmer months. The relaxed park is also great for horseback riding.
