A Visit To This Washington Winery Will Transport You Straight To Europe
Hedges Family Estate in Washington offers a picturesque, European-style vineyard experience with biodynamic farming and a welcoming atmosphere.
There's no doubt about it -- Washington is home to some seriously stunning wineries. And if you're ever lucky enough to enjoy a tasting or a tour at Hedges Family Estate, you'll see exactly what we mean. Taking a stroll on this picturesque property feels exactly like wandering through an old European vineyard.
Hedges Family Estate is located at 53511 N Sunset Rd. in Benton City.
The property is owned and operated by Tom and Ann-Marie Hedges and family, Ann-Marie is originally from Champagne, France, which explains the amazing French influences here.
In 1989, Tom and Ann-Marie purchased 50 acres on Red Mountain and planted 40 acres of bordeaux grape varieties.
And the rest is history.
When you stop by, you'll probably see Tom and Ann-Marie working hard (and enjoying every minute of it).
Their team of employees consists of family and friends who are just as passionate about wine as they are.
The gorgeous tasting room is open year-round. And it's so impressive, you'll want to hang out here even if you don't drink wine.
The vino here, however, has been known to convert even non-wine drinkers.
The family practices biodynamic farming, a form of alternative agriculture that's very similar to organic farming.
No artificial pesticides are used, and the biodynamic calendar regulates the timing of some farming practices. Planting, pruning, and harvesting are all done by hand here.
You can taste the, ahem, fruits of the family's labor practically anytime.
From April - November, tasting room hours are Wednesday - Sunday from 11 - 5. Winter hours are Tuesday - Saturday from 11 - 5. And if those times don't work, you're welcome to call and schedule a tasting. The family loves visitors!
If you're asked to join the wine club, it's an invitation you may want to accept.
In addition to great discounts and special tastings, you'll receive invitations to some amazing private events.
Hedges Family Estate is truly incredible.
Stop by sometime and see for yourself. And bring a picnic, because you'll want to stay awhile.
As Washington's wine industry continues to thrive, it's fun to explore our beautiful wineries... especially when they have onsite restaurants, like these do.
