Inside each of us is an inner child who longs for the fairytale life, where the ogres are overcome, days are full of warm sunshine, and all ends well when everything is said and done. Deep down inside, we want to see the good in others and to believe that whatever is going on around us, it will all work out in the end. Certain types of environments feel very fairytale-like, such as a whimsical treehouse restaurant in South Carolina called Lil Duck Treehouse Cafe.
Editor’s Note: Unfortunately, Lil Duck Kombucha and Treehouse Cafe is now closed. It has been replaced by City Limits Barbeque.
Located at 1119 Methodist Park Road in West Columbia, this restaurant is simply magical both inside and from the outside at any time of the day.
It’s perfect for a romantic evening, to grab lunch with a friend, or to have some time for yourself.
Its atmosphere is like an oasis, where you just feel the stress leaving as you walk in and sit down. It's best to make a reservation as the current seating area is limited and it's busy at times. Otherwise, you may have quite a bit of a wait.
Its focus and inspiration is healthy living and habits after Jessica, the daughter of the owner, Debey, went through treatment for Stage 4 breast cancer at 19 years old. It was through this journey that they discovered the healing nature of kombucha, a type of fermented beverage, that is served at the cafe.
Debey began making it herself, carefully brewing it so that it would have as many nutrients as possible without the sugar, caffeine, or vinegar taste. Friends and family from all over the state began clamoring at the chance to taste Debey’s delicious kombucha.
After undergoing medical treatments and making other regular healthy lifestyle changes, Jessica was able to have a no-active cancer status after nine months.
You will find many different delicious, healthy dishes on the menu at the cafe for brunch, lunch, and dinner, and there are also specials available. This is one of the latte options.
All food eaten here is locally sourced. The beef and pork are pasture-raised, grass-fed, and grass-finished.
These chicken chili cheese fries are made using organic, free-range chicken that was not left in a cage its whole life and fed only organic feed its whole life. All meats are chemical-free, hormone-free, and byproduct-free.
Just because it’s healthy food doesn’t mean you can’t have dessert, so be sure to save some room!
It's such an alluring, charming place; there’s even a raccoon family that has been drawn to the surrounding trees.
Another fun activity in West Columbia to check out is the longest float trip in South Carolina.
