It’s so refreshing to discover a restaurant with menu options that are different from what everyone else is doing. One can only eat so many of the same things day in and day out without feeling an incredible sense of boredom, especially those with well-developed palates! It could be one reason why the Pinterest platform became a go-to for foodies looking for fresh recipe ideas. Imagine an eatery not only with a unique menu but also where the food tastes so good you realize it’s an order-one-of-everything restaurant in South Carolina. Pomegranate on Main in Greenville is exactly this!
Its co-founder, Ali Saifi, is a long-time South Carolina resident of over 40 years, having moved here from Iran-Persia. His vision of starting the restaurant was based on a desire to give back to the community that he has come to love and deeply appreciate over these many years.
Mr. Saifi was living comfortably at the time and did not need to open a restaurant for income. This alone speaks for itself and for the wild success Pomegranate on Main has become. As businessman Harvey MacKay put it, "Find something you love to do, and you’ll never work a day in your life." The passion Mr. Saifi has for this restaurant and for creating an "experience to savor" for guests shines through when he speaks. Even he does not have a single favorite item on the menu!
It’s located just steps away from the iconic Falls Park downtown.
Pomegranate is a popular ingredient in Persian cuisine. Native to the central Iranian plateau, it comes in different colors and tastes, generally varying between sweet and sour.
You will find it throughout the menu at Pomegranate on Main.
The restaurant’s signature Pomegranate Martini, for starters, is a guest favorite.
Many of the lunch menu options include a Persian citrus dressing. The Torsh kabob is charbroiled tenderloin, marinated in a zesty sweet and sour pomegranate sauce mixed with walnuts. Oh, yum! Pomegranate and Walnut Stew (Fesenjan) is just one of several dinner entrees with the fruit.
The flavors are so inviting, you may not even want the meal to end, but you can finish it off with the amazing Pomegranate Ice Cream if you wish!
There are other types of desserts as well, all homemade by Mr. Saifi’s wife, Nancy.
Everything is made with the freshest ingredients, seasoned and cooked fresh daily to perfection on an open flame. Because of this, there could be times if you’re eating later in the day when the restaurant has run out of a particular dish.
But not to worry, with so many interesting options to choose from it will not be difficult to find something else you will enjoy. All entrees are gluten-free and there are some vegetarian options.
There’s a nice atmosphere with outdoor patio seating available.
The patio area is dog-friendly!
The restaurant staff understands this type of cuisine is new to many guests, and they are great at explaining it when needed.
There is a sense of family amongst the staff, which undoubtedly contributes to the atmosphere and conveys the value of family the Saifis hold dear.
Mr. Saifi’s sister had a tray custom-made as a gift for him when he opened the restaurant in 2007. The special tea from the beverage menu is always served on this sentimental tray!
Pomegranate on Main is a perfect spot for date night …
… and happy hour at the full-service bar.
