The Wonderful Montana Winery You’ll Find In The Unlikeliest Of Places

While Montana has become a mecca for beer enthusiasts in recent years, when you think of Big Sky Country, wine isn't typically the first thing that comes to mind. But thanks to a "cowboy wine maker" named Clint Peck, Billings is home to Yellowstone Cellars & Winery - and whether or not you enjoy a glass of vino, you'll love visiting the space.

Clint created this enterprise after over 30 years of chasing cows (literally and figuratively).

His family has roots in Montana, so this was where he wanted to be. He settled into a 3,000 square foot industrial space south of Highway 90 near Josephine Crossing and got to work.

Since its 2010 beginnings, the Yellowstone Cellars & Winery has become a very popular place.

Locals love the fact that the winery is family-friendly and that the space is so welcoming.

The selections of red and white grapes are grown in Columbia Valley vineyards and then crushed, fermented, cellared and bottled in Billings.

So how is the wine here, you might be wondering? According to local Montanans, it's quite good.

They'll sell an estimated 3,700 cases of vino this year.

The tasting room is open 7 days a week (hours vary) and tastings are FREE.

Look over the menu when you arrive, and the friendly staff will help you decide what to taste. Glass pours are also served for $6 or $7, depending on what you get.

Enjoy a glass of wine on the patio with some tasty snacks.

They also offer a great selection of gourmet cheeses, deli meats, and crackers.

Not a fan of wine? You can still come for the live music.

Yellowstone Cellars & Winery hosts some talented local bands every Friday & Saturday Night from 7-9 PM. They also have occasional open mic nights.
