The ’50s Inspired Diner In Coastal Maine That Will Help You Get Your Kicks Without Having To Travel Route 66

While we can't deny our pride over that, we do want to make sure that everyone sees just how many other fun options exist. One of those is this unique spot in the midcoast. The vintage theme and great menu make it an eatery that should be on everyone's list to visit. And yes, of course, they have seafood.

Sitting in downtown Bar Harbor you'll find Route 66, one of the most unique places to enjoy a meal anywhere in the state.

The first surprise is that, while they certainly offer seafood, this restaurant offers an eclectic mix of menu items in a town that's just about devoted to all things fish.

The second is just how decorated this place is! With a solid vintage theme reminiscent of the soda fountains found in the 1950s, it feels as though every inch is covered in classic decor.

In addition to all the fun decorations, the space is huge making it feel like a special occasion every time you visit.

We could go on and on about the fun Route 66 theme, but you can't forget the food! They offer one of the largest and most varied menus in town. You can't go wrong with a burger. Pictured here is the Route 66 Pile Up, which comes with grilled onions, mushrooms, applewood smoked bacon, and American and Cheddar cheese. It's served on a homemade roll with fresh hand-cut fries.

You won't be surprised that they have plenty of seafood options, too. Their fresh Maine lobster roll is as good as any of the well-known lobster shacks.

Then there are the things you won't expect, like this dish of chicken and waffles.

Grab yourself a milkshake to really make it feel like the 1950s.

And don't forget dessert. It's an absolute must to order the Cadillac Sundae. This traditional vanilla sundae comes in its own take-home vintage Corvette. Sure, it's cardboard, but it's almost as cool as the real thing!
