7 Places In Arizona Where You Can Pick Your Own Delicious Food
Arizona offers several farms where you can pick your own fresh produce, including fruits and vegetables.
Some of our families garden every year, and we know that the best food is often that which you pick yourself. If having a garden is something you are unable to do, however, the next best thing is to find one that allows you to pick the food yourself! We're in luck - because Arizona is home to several to choose from! Here are our picks for some of the very best places to pick your own food in Arizona.
1. Apple Annie’s, Willcox
In addition to several varieties of apples, you can also pick any of their wide range of seasonal produce, including peaches, okra, and peppers. The orchard is located at 2081 West Hardy Road in Willcox, and the vegetable farm is located at 6405 West Williams Road, also in Willcox. There's also a country store, which can be found at 1510 North Circle I Road. Make sure to bring some empty bags and a lot of space - you're going to need it!
2. Cotton Lane Citrus, Surprise
Once the citrus trees are ready for harvesting during the proper season, check out this grove for fresh grapefruit, oranges, and plenty of other citrus fruits! They even supply you with 15 and 40-pound bags to stuff to the brim with delicious fruits. It costs just $20 per bag, and you get a ridiculous amount of fruit for the low price. Typically, they're open to the public from mid-December to the beginning of April for harvest season, so there's still time! The grove is located at 14014 North 172nd Avenue in Surprise.
3. Date Creek Ranch, Wickenburg
Known mostly as a cattle ranch, Date Creek Ranch provides an opportunity for you to pick your own organic apples and peaches during the late summer and early fall seasons. The orchards are open weekends during peak harvesting season. It's a rural location; from Highway 93, turn north at mile marker 177.5, then drive four miles along a dirt road to reach the ranch. They also have fresh grass-fed beef available (well, when it's available!), which is well-worth the trip as well. Find them at 5 Date Creek Ranch Road, Wickenburg, Arizona, 85358.
4. Desert Oasis, Buckeye
Here’s something a little different. If you're looking for farm-fresh eggs, check out this location, which allows you and your children to pick your own eggs straight from the coop from spring until fall! Their chickens are organically raised and hormone-free. From fall through winter, citrus is available for the picking. The farm is located at 12901 South 186th Avenue in Buckeye, and they recommend you call ahead to ensure you can get enough eggs at (602) 309-9090.
5. Mortimer Family Farms, Dewey
Starting in October, you can pick your own pumpkins at this farm and participate in their annual Pumpkin Festival! The farm is located at 12907 East State Route 169 in Dewey. Make sure to check back throughout the year, as what's currently growing depends on what time of year it is.
6. Schnepf Farms, Queen Creek
This farm is a popular location for school tour groups, but also equally popular are the organic u-pick gardens and orchards. Starting at $1.50 per pound for delicious, nutritious foods, you can pick a variety of produce like kale, artichokes, and apples. Schnepf Farms is located at 22601 East Cloud Road in Queen Creek.
7. Vertuccio Farms, Mesa
This farm at the edge of Mesa suburbs has several u-pick options, including tomatoes and peaches. They're also open for events and host their own year-round. They're located at 4011 South Power Road in Mesa.
