'Fess up. Are you one of those risk takers who likes to live life way out on the very extreme edge... and drive with the gas light on? Whether you take those kinds of dangerous risks or play it safe and fill up when the tank's only half empty, you'll want to add this unique West Virginia gas station to your list of places to stop next time you need gas.
Tucked away in Fayette County, West Virginia (specifically at 5239 Gauley River Road in Belva) is one of the last remaining full service gas stations in the nation: Brown's Service Station.
Of course, it's not THE last - just one of the last of a dying breed of a service-first oriented business model that used to be the gas station industry standard, but now has largely faded to the pages of history.
Full service isn't a thing of the past in Belva, West Virginia, though. When you pull up at Brown's Service Station with an empty tank, a friendly employee will trot out to your car, tap politely on your window for permission, and then proceed to top off your gas tank, leaving you to choose what to do with your spare minutes...
... enjoy some quiet reflection, perhaps, or maybe head on into the station store to swap howdys with the owners.
Speaking of the owners, this is a family run establishment, and it has been since 1922. Generations of Browns have run these gas pumps, and if you're a repeat customer, they probably know you by name. That's how tight this little community station is.
Oh, and here's another thing that makes Brown's so unique. Not only do they offer full service at the gas pump, but they also have an attached garage where you can opt for new tires, an oil change, and more to keep your vehicle in tip-top shape.
Are you a regular customer of Brown's Service Station? What's your favorite part about this family-run, service oriented gas station? Who knew getting gas could be such an encouraging, rewarding, community-based experience!
